OUTBURN - SEPTEMBER 2003

"I saw a lot of inspiration and parallels between some of the artists in Berlin in the 1920's when expressionism was created and people saying, " I don't have to paint or talk about things that are there. I can pull things from my imagination," how they were treated and persecuted and how they lived their lives in the face of fear like there was no tomorrow. That's where the most dangerous and exciting art comes from."

ST. PETERSBURG TIMES - 2003

"This album was meant to be purely about expressionism....Expressionism to me is about using your imagination and putting it wherever it can fit. If I've got an idea, it can't always be in a song. Sometimes it has to be a performance or a painting or a film or a video. So, for me, The Golden Age of Grotesque is what it says it is. It's an era of expressionism for me."

BLENDER - 2003

"Even by Manson's standards, Golden Age is a thrilling over-the-top piece of work. Influenced by the excess of 1930's vaudeville and the decadence of Weimar Germany, it is frantic with Manson's libertine ideas about entertainment, ego, sex and violence. It's also dementedly catchy, and the language hyperventilates along side his music. One song is called "Doll-Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag." The video for another, "mOBSCENE," Manson says, will feature a troupe of dancing girls and an elephant."

I-D MAGAZINE - 2004

"The grotesque is the imagination. It's like expressionism, in Berlin in the '20s, when expressionism came about, the Nazis wanted to destroy it. Now in some strange way we're living in that same era of fascism, but we don't know it; we don't see it. That's why it's even more poisonous. We are being robbed of our childhood, our imagination."
